KUWAIT: The Ministry of Defense said two northern border posts were targeted Friday by explosive-laden drones launched from Iraq, causing material damage but no casualties. In a press statement, Ministry spokesperson Colonel Saud Al-Atwan said the relevant judicial authorities have begun taking the necessary measures in response to the incident. He prayed for the protection of Kuwait and its people under the leadership of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah.

Separately, Minister of Social Affairs, Family and Childhood Affairs Dr Amthal Al-Huwailah inspected a number of wedding halls as part of efforts to assess readiness ahead of their reopening. The halls are set to receive visitors following a precautionary suspension due to current local and regional conditions. During the tour, Al-Huwailah stressed the importance of adhering to the highest standards of quality and safety, ensuring full preparedness to provide integrated services in a secure environment. She underlined the continuation of field inspections and periodic reviews to maintain readiness and improve service quality for beneficiaries.

The minister said the tour was conducted in line with directives of the political leadership and instructions of His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Sabah, emphasizing the need to enhance public facility readiness and improve service efficiency. She reviewed technical and operational preparations, including air conditioning systems, lighting, maintenance and hospitality services.

In parallel, customs authorities called for intensified efforts to ensure smooth and secure operations at Kuwait International Airport to support travel and trade. Deputy Director General of the General Administration of Customs for Ports, Search and Customs Investigations Saleh Al-Omar made the remarks during a field tour of Terminal 4 (T4), according to a statement. The visit forms part of broader preparations to strengthen operational readiness and enhance efficiency at the airport. Al-Omar emphasized the importance of full preparedness and coordinated efforts to ensure seamless operations, noting that the tour aligns with a comprehensive plan to upgrade customs performance.

Meanwhile, Kuwait Airways announced the resumption of 35 commercial flights from Kuwait International Airport’s Terminal 4 to multiple destinations over the coming week. Acting CEO Abdulwahab Al-Shatti said initial operations will cover 13 destinations, including Beirut, Riyadh, London, Istanbul, Dhaka, Mumbai, Kochi, Colombo, Delhi, Manila, Cairo, Jeddah and Trivandrum. Flights to Cairo will operate daily starting Sunday, while Beirut will be served twice weekly on Mondays and Wednesdays from April 27, and Riyadh on Tuesdays and Fridays from April 28. Jeddah will have four weekly flights, while London will be served three times a week beginning April 28.

Other destinations will operate on scheduled weekly frequencies, including Colombo, Istanbul, Delhi, Kochi, Manila, Dhaka, Mumbai and Trivandrum, with additional routes to be announced following regulatory approvals. Al-Shatti affirmed the airline’s full operational readiness and its ability to manage varying conditions with efficiency and flexibility, noting that services are being resumed under carefully developed plans to ensure safety, quality and continuity.

He praised the support of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation and commended the efforts of Kuwait Airways staff, particularly during the recent period when operations were conducted via Dammam Airport in Saudi Arabia. Highlighting World Pilots’ Day on April 26, Al-Shatti also lauded the professionalism and dedication of the airline’s pilots, describing them as a cornerstone of operational safety and success. The resumption follows the reopening of Kuwait’s airspace last Thursday after a temporary precautionary closure imposed on February 28 due to regional developments. — KUNA
